FILEP MOTWARY
Filep Motwary is a fashion theorist, curator, author, filmmaker, and interdisciplinary creative whose work explores the intersections of fashion, art, craft, and visual culture. Through exhibitions, publications, films, and performance, he positions fashion as a critical cultural practice that bridges material heritage, contemporary art, and social discourse.
Since 2018, Motwary has served as Editor-at-Large of Vogue Greece, where his photography and interviews have contributed to the international fashion conversation. Over the past two decades, he has conducted more than 700 interviews with renowned figures.
His acclaimed exhibitions include Haute-à-Porter (Modemuseum Hasselt, 2016) and SYNERGY: Art into Fashion (A.G. Leventis Gallery, 2022), exploring the reciprocal influence of contemporary art and fashion. He is the author of Theorem[a]: The Body, Emotion + Politics in Fashion (Skira, 2019), featuring conversations with influential voices including Jean Paul Gaultier, Viktor & Rolf, Iris van Herpen, Michele Lamy, and Harold Koda.
Commissioned by the Republic of Cyprus, Motwary is the creator of #craftingcyprus, starring Michael Anastassiades, Hussein Chalayan among others, an internationally presented film series documenting endangered craft traditions and recontextualizing them within contemporary cultural discourse. As a curator, educator, and researcher, he advances fashion as a dynamic medium through which histories of identity, craftsmanship, and artistic production are interpreted, preserved, and reimagined.
